Okay, so what HAVEN’T we been up to?! We stay pretty busy in Kindergarten! So much so that I haven’t been very good about remembering to take any pictures! Boo for me! However, I haven’t forgotten how to write with lots of exclamations!!! ;)
A few weeks ago, I saw a DARLING idea on Pencils, Glue, & Tying Shoes {don’tcha just LOVE that name?!?!?} for teaching the 5 senses. I absolutely LOVED her anchor chart, so I wanted to introduce our little unit of study with something pretty similar. Meet Five Senses Frank.
It always cracks me up when the kids say they have a sense of “eyes” or a sense of “tongue”. HA! I got all of the label printables from Pencils, Glue, & Tying Shoes. THANK YOU, ANDI!!
Five Senses Frank was also the *perfect* segue for teaching the concept of labeling. LOVE it when things just work out like that! I also had my kids make their own little 5 senses friend to practice labeling {labels from Pencils, Glue, & Tying Shoes}. LOVE IT!
We’re adding to our little number anchor charts, too. This week our anchor number is 5, but I forgot to take a picture, so here’s a little sneak peek at 4 :)
In addition to our 5 senses fun, we’ve been learning about apples, too! Here are just a few things we’ve been working on…
A little “what comes next” action. This is a skill we work on EVERY.SINGLE.DAY during calendar, so I was all kinds of happy to see them do so well with this independently!
We’re also working on extending, creating, and naming patterns. They love any and everything pattern related…and I lOVE the way they’re finding patterns in little everyday things!
Sorting is still going strong, too. We used little apples to sort by color, shape, and size and it was cute to hear the kids talk about *other* ways to sort them, too :) Makes me smile :)
Since we do so much with color words throughout the year, I like to start out the year with lots of color word activities. We have an anchor color every week, but my kids are learning all about all the colors during their literacy stations, too.
We’ve been reading sentences with color words…
…and matching color words, too!
My kids know to use their “resources” if they can’t read the words. We’ve got lots of color word anchor charts/posters around the room, so there’s always a place they can look when they get *stuck*. I’m SO proud of them for being such independent little learners!!!
If you’re wanting to add a few more apple activities to your stash, click on the pic below for some freebies!!
**A couple of the activities might need some explaining :) The apples with words and the Johnny Appleseed cards are used for sight word puzzles. The Johnny Appleseed cards are used for reference…just cut the apples apart to make puzzles. The colored apples & boxes are color word puzzles. Just print out the printable letter tile sheet several times to have enough letters for more than one use.**
I’ll be back soon to share some more Kinder fun!!! Hope you’re having a great week!
