And We're Off...

Am I the only one that stresses thismuch about the regression of my kids after a long break?!  I do this even after 3-day weekends.  It's a sickness.  I worry they'll forget absolutely everything I've taught them and they'll come back from break starting over at square one.

Thankfully, that was not the case today {insert dramatic sigh of relief here}.  In fact, I'm excited to say a lot of my babies progressed these last two weeks!! {Doesn't it always seem like a little light bulb goes off after winter break??!? Why do I worry?!??} I did running records on all of my kids today and ohmiword.  Completely and utterly smitten I was.  Be still my heart.  SO excited and anxious about benchmarks next week!!!

I even got to welcome a new friend to Room 206.  Precious and sweet.

We hit the ground running and barely stopped to breathe.  First up, our new year goals.  We talked all about goals and resolutions and I told them all about the different resolutions we had in my family.  For the most part, most of my babies said things like "I will be nice to my friends"..."I will be kind to others"..."I will make my bed/do my chores".  But my most favorite was, "I will start brushing my teeth."  I die.

My oldest got to write about his resolutions today as well and he informed me that he will be more patient and try more new foods.  So far it's New Year = 2, Landon = 0.  Thank goodness we've got time to practice :)

During our planning day yesterday, I was able to create a few "extras" for my writing center and my kids were anxious to visit it today.  I made these little winter themed vocabulary cards and several printables from which they can choose for the next few weeks.  I love to see them writing!

You can grab this little FREEBIE in my shop!  Just click on the pic below.

After school, my littlest told me to close my eyes.  I did as he requested {did I mention he takes his sweet little time on pretty much everything?!?!?!}  I was almost asleep and he shouted, "OPEN 'EM UP, MOMMA!!!!"  And this is what I saw...

Me...in the eyes of my 4-year-old.  And it looks pretty accurate, too.  Disheveled, hopped up on caffeine and carrying a few extra pounds of holiday "fluff" in the midsection.  And this is why I love having my boys at school with me...even after a crazy first day back, they always make me laugh!!!  LOVE!!!

I stayed a while after school trying to plan out the next few weeks and get pseudo organized.  I'm really trying to be more intent with my planning and stop trying to wait 'til the last minute to get things prepped and ready.  This might only last a few more weeks, but hey...I'm tryin'!  The 100th Day is right around the corner and I'm SO excited.  I think I have my & the boys' tees all planned out, too.  Mark that down as a first. I *might* actually get around to doing it all this year!!!
{Here's a little peek at some of last year's hundred day fun from my little 100th Day packet.  Click on the pic for more details.  Eeek!  I can't wait!!!!}

The rest of our week is jam packed with lots of snowman fun!  The kids are lovin' all the cold weather activities.  I, on the other hand, am dreaming of flip flops and tank tops.  We moved further south to avoid frigid temps and well, it's way too cold for this Texas girl.  I am fully aware that my friends up north might as well be living in the Arctic and I really shouldn't complain...and trust me when I say that I am SAAAAAAAD for you....but dang.  This part of Texas is just too cold for me.

I'm excited to say that we'll be creepin' back up into the 60's later this week.  {Please don't throw rocks at me!!}   I'll be praying for y'all to get out of the negative, single digit weather SOON!!!  There's nothing worse than being COLD!!!!!!!

Bundle up and stay warm, sweet friends!!!

  2. I am hoping that my students' brains are full of good things when I return. We had 2 weeks off for Christmas break which was awesome. This snow/ice storm has our district out for 3 additional snow days. So we have been off almost 2 weeks. The end of our 9 weeks is over Friday. Good thing I just have to test a couple kids over a few things. Just bought your 100th day packet. Ours is just around the corner...thanks once again for sharing your talents~

  4. Can I ask HOW did you manage to do a running record for ALL of your students in ONE day? That sounds miraculous! I'd love to know your secret ; ) I am still a sub but I have done running records A LOT and it takes me forever even when that's my sole focus.
PS. It's so cold up here (PA) we had OFF school yesterday and a 2 hour delay today. Just because it's cold--no snow or ice! Still not sure if that makes me happy or sad.

  5. We came back from break for two days last week, and now we are on our third "cold day". I feel like we are never going to get back to our routines.

  6. I'm sure you've bloggeed about this before but how do you have time to do all sorts of fun activities. I work at a title 1 school and our school never does any of your cute ideas.

  9. After missing 8--yes 8!--snow days since December, one of my precious boys said, "It feels like the first day of first grade all over again..." Yay for routine again!
