After looking through my Facebook feed, I think it’s safe to say that MANY of you are digging your way through the snow this week! Well aren’t you lucky?! I was chipping away at the frost on my windshield this morning, but then it warmed up to the high 50’s and all was *almost* right in the world :) I’ve been a little MIA this week because we’re testing our Kbabies! Have I told y’all how much I LOVE mid-year testing?!?! Because I honestly really DO!! I LOVE seeing all the progress my kids are making!!! Sure…it’s definitely time consuming…but I LOVE the results! I’m SO unbelievably proud of my kids!!! They just BLOW me away!!!
Speaking of digging, did I tell y’all we got a new dog?!?! After Nutella was taken, we were so very, VERY sad. Then we decided to get a German Shepard {oh how I LOVE Germans!} We decided we’d wait ‘til the summer to get a puppy so we’d have time to train him. Well…God had a different plan for us and we were introduced to a rescue group here in Houston…PugHearts. Y’all remember our old dog, Griffin?!?! The world’s sweetest, fattest pug?!?! Well, after he passed in March, we said that *one day* we’d love to add another pug to the mix. PugHearts is this great rescue organization here in the Houston area and they had a little guy we just fell for….hook, line, and sinker. And after we had to sign away our first born child {not really, but ohmiword…the rescue adoption process is NO joke!!!!}, we have ourselves a new member of the family. Meet Lloyd…our sweet little 6-year-old rescue! We LOVE him!!!!
Okay…sorry about that. Just a proud *mommy moment*. Back to business. Let’s talk math…again..shall we?!
We played another “make 10” game this week, only this time, we practiced using a number line. This is pretty much the same idea as the snowman/tens frame game I posted about HERE. I made a giant number line out of butcher paper and took out one of my 10 cent snowflakes as a marker.
Then I hid some **snowballs*** {aka: paper circles} in the **snow** {crinkle paper}. Each *snowball* had a number {1-10} written on it. The kids had to reach into the snow and dig for a snowball.
Once they pulled out a snowball, we marked the number on the number line using our giant snowflake. Then we moved the snowflake to 10 and counted the number of spaces we moved along the way.
After we counted the spaces, we created number sentences to match. They’re getting SO good at creating number sentences!! And I love that they’re starting to understand how to *add on*!! We recorded our number sentences on a little recording sheet in my newest math packet. This is actually a large life size version of the activity in the packet….my kids are begging to do it again!!! You can click the pic below if you need a few more math tub activities for winter!
TGIF{tomorrow}!!! Happy 3-day weekend to you!!!!
Your passion for teaching math is inspiring, I'm still working my way there :)
ReplyDeleteCongrats on adopting your puppy! We are in the process now of rescuing a lab and the paperwork is seriously nothing to mess with. Happy weekend to you!
No kidding!!! The paperwork is nuts!!! Congrats on your new baby :)
DeleteOh, Lloyd is precious! And he certainly poses for pictures! Love his blue eyes and coloring.
ReplyDeleteAs a first grade teacher I am so impressed with your math for K's! They are certainly getting a great foundation from a teacher who LOVES math!
Nutella was taken? I must have missed the blog about that. SADsville!
Yes...Nutella was taken!!!! SO sad!!! We had him for 3 weeks and Mr. spouse was playing with him in the front yard. This young guy walked up and asked him if Nutella was ours and then proceeded to tell him it was his dig. Long story short, it was his owner and he took him away :(. We cried about it for days!!!

Love the number line idea! Thanks! I have a question - do you know where your mom got her dress for your sisters wedding? My sister and I both have sons getting married in spring and summer - her dress was beautiful.
ReplyDeleteDiane...yes! She will be so excited you said that :). We thought the dress was stunning :). She got it at Dillard's!!!! Hope this helps!!!

I love your ideas. I refer to you by first name at my school. It's like calling a movie star by only their first name! Off subject question, has your episode of house Hunters ever been on. We love that show and would love to see your episode.

Hi and Congrats! Llyod is super cute!! We adopted a rescue dog last September. My kids and hubby were all totally on board but I was not sure about adding a puppy to our already busy lives! Boy, was I wrong! I fell in love instantly and our family is so lucky to have Dewey! Who really rescues who?? :)
