Do you ever feel like your "Teacher Talk" spills over into your home life? Maybe you hear yourself saying things to your husband...or even your own kids or friends...that you don't even realize you're saying?? Mr. Spouse has caught me uttering a few of these phrases around the house and he's quick to remind me to "leave the teacher talk at school". I just can't seem to turn it off!! HA!!! Here's a little sneak peek into what a typical day "sounds" like for me {both at school AND home :)}...
"Turn your voice off."
"I'll be happy to start when you can show me you're ready!"
"Awesome blossom!!"
"Pin a rose on your nose!!"
"Can you sit criss-cross honeysauce for me!?"
"That's the right answer to different question :)"
"I just wanna put you in my pocket and take you home with me!" OR "I wanna put you in my pocket and sit you on my shelf :)"
"You are such a love!"
"Thanks, lovebug/darlin'/precious/sweetness"
"That's adorbs."
"Zip it, lock it, put it in your pocket."
"You get what you get and you don't throw a fit!"
"Now let's try to do that WITHOUT complaining :)"
"Get inside my hug! I don't want you to miss out on the love!!" {To get us in a straight line}
"We can do hard stuff!!"
"Pat yourself on the back :)"
"Bravo! ladies & gentlemen! That's some Oscar Worthy behavior/work/listening/etc. right there!!"
"Heavens to Bootsie!!"
"You are such a little smartie!"
"Thanks for filling my bucket"
"Oh, I'm so sad. That's such a bummer."
"Don't be tardy for the party!!"
"You rock the house."
"Love you to the moon and back!"
Okay...so I guess I could see how that *might* annoy Mr. Spouse :) Please tell me you sound just like this...even when you're NOT at school?!?!?!?
Wow! I am not alone. I have used variations of many of your statements. I have even used teacher talk in public to total strangers. Last fall while on vacation I told a lady to " Cover her sneeze please." My husband was so embarrassed.
ReplyDeleteOooh these are great! I love them! I am going to use some of them for my son! LOL! I love the "you get what you get and don't throw a fit!" :0)
ReplyDeleteSo not alone! I drive my kids, husband, and friends nuts! I seem to always say things like "So, sad for you", and "Is that a nice thing to do to each other?" I think my yoga class cracks up when I am teaching. I say stuff to them like "Kiss your big juicy brain for such an amazing Adho Mukha Svanasana (down dog)." Snaps for good Shavasana.
ReplyDeleteTeacher first, then a real person. :)

"Bummer dude" is one of my biggies that I say at home, at school, at the store, in the car, in a box, with a fox... you get the idea!
ReplyDeleteAlso... "Get over it"... "You'll still grow up, go to college, and be a success whether you got to have ___ on one day of your life in Mrs. Bainbridge's class or not!"
:)

Haha! These are hilarious. :) I love "That's the right answer to a different question"!!
ReplyDeleteOh and... for some reason, I say "chip chop" to them when I want them to hurry up!
ReplyDeleteI did a linky party of things teachers always say a few months back... you can find tons of other funnies there!
:)

I'm so glad that I am not the only one! When I'm not in school over the summer, I work at a daycare. I've asked my husband before leaving for a trip if he needed to use the "potty".
ReplyDeleteI love your "Get inside my Hug! I don't want you to miss out on the love!!" I'll so use that tomorrow!
Thanks for the great post!
@Kristen...I am CRACKING.UP at your comment!!! Hahahaha!!
ReplyDelete@Christina...I think I remember that linky party!! I totally forgot about "Get over it". I say that way too often! Especially to my own two boys! HA!
@Emily...that's how I excuse myself from situations. "Excuse me, y'all. I need to use the potty :)} Hahahaha!
haha, this is too funny! my mr. hates it when i count down! it drives him crazy and he always reminds me that he isn't 5! (sometimes I wonder though...)
ReplyDeletelove it!
I love it! I say half of these things out with friends (luckily most of them are teachers and understand!) and I use at least 3/4 in my classroom! I've started say "Oh, that stinks" late, but I might switch to "that's such a bummer", I like it better!! I also LOVE your get inside my hug!

Those made me smile! Thanks for sharing!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI do the same thing! It's probably easier to excuse when you have some kiddos at home but I don't! I say things like "is that a good choice?" and "Ok, friends..." (to my dogs).
ReplyDeleteMy husband is usually NOT impressed :)
Those are great!
ReplyDelete@Emily I use "is that a good choice?" all the time at home too! My (almost) hubby just gives me an are-you-kidding-me look!

Oh wow I love the one about the hug for getting them in a straight line. I have never heard that one before, I am stealing it for sure :)
ReplyDeleteI have to applaud you for having energy to speak at home. By the end of my day I usually just want to have complete silence for 2 hours (or more!). Unfortunately my own 4 kiddos aren't really into silence...
Jennifer @ Herding Kats In Kindergarten
LOL! I am starting to catch myself doing this too, only not QUITE as much as you, since I've only just finished student teaching! :P
ReplyDeleteMy boyfriend tells me all the time. "I am not one of your students!" HA I also say those cheezy rhyming lines too! Awesome possum! :)

These are hilarious. I say these things all the time. I say "poor choice" to everyone and this weekend while tailgating I said, "You get what you get and you don't throw a fit." My friends were like, what, why are you rhyming?
ReplyDeleteLOL - I seriously loved this post! You are NOT alone... I talk like this all day long.. at school, with friends.. oh, and it doesn't help that the boyfriend now works at the same school I do! :) My favorite is "you get what you get and you don't throw a fit" - we say this one ALL the time!!!

Haha so funny I catch myself saying those silly things at home too! My husband gets a wee bit annoyed when I start explicitly explaining things...First you pick up the picture, then you need to get a hammer and nails, finally you will hammer the nail into the wall to hang the picture!! Hehe, he hates it :o)
ReplyDeleteI do that too! The worst was when I was trying to hush a room full of teenagers at a church activity and I said, "my sweet class, I need you to look at me and use your listening ears for just a minute". Ha ha!
ReplyDeleteI once tried to tie my husband's shoe while we were sitting across from each other having a conversation! He was annoyed for sure!!
ReplyDeleteMy hubs tells me all the time not to talk to him like that:)
ReplyDeleteMy faves:
Make a better choice
Choose a good choice spot (Daily 5)
Kiss your brain
Sweet dog! (when they do something great)
Hands behind your back and a bubble in your mouth
Give me 5
123 Eyes on Me
Hocus Pocus Everybody Focus
I am right there with ya! I use wholebrain teaching and have said, "Classity, class"" to my own children to get their attention. It did get their attention, it also got me looks like I had finally lost it! Sounds like you are a Love and Logic teacher, too! I say, "That's a bummer" a lot!

Finally in First
Like Jenn, I have said, "class, class" to my own darlings at home. I just get a "do you know where you are, mom?" look from them. The worst is when I catch myself saying things to kids in Wally world. Once, to a child who was beginning to throw a fit, I said, "Is that necessary behavior?" My kids about died of embarrassment!

Love it! When my husband and I first started dating, I would say to him often, "Could you be a star and..." It took him several weeks before he finally caught on! :)
ReplyDeleteI love "that's the right answer to a different question", totally adding that to my teacher talk.
ReplyDeleteWhat about when you call people "friends".
ReplyDelete"Ok friends I need your eyes on me."
I also say, "1-2-3 eyes on me...." as if I'm waiting for people to say something back...
"Ok my little bugs"
"Find a just right spot"
"Stare at the hair in front of you" (for getting in line)
Love reading everyone's comments.
I love the regional differences in our teacher-isms!
