I love positive reinforcement. Sometimes…okay, maybe a lot of times…there are a few little friends who need a little something more than positive reinforcement. You know those babies I’m talkin’ about…the ones who just DO NOT…no matter how positive you are…respond to it. Those are the kids that *might* give me a little bit of heartburn & grey hair ;) However, I still use positive reinforcement as often as I possibly can! One of my favorite things to do is give out certificates & awards. The kids LOVE these! I’m always so shocked how motivated they are by a piece of paper :) Not only do these little certificates & notes reward my firsties, but they help encourage the ones who need it most. Whatever works, right?!

The last three pages in the download are little slips I like to send home “just because”. I like to write positive notes home just to let the parents know what a rockin’ job their babies are doing…bucket filling, if you will ;) I especially like for the kids to fill them out, too!! That’s their favorite!!

ReplyDeleteI LOVE positive reinforcement. It's SO much better than being negative all the time. I use a clip chart for behavior management, so I move students up when they have made good choices. At the end of the day, if they are on blue or purple, they get a sticker to put on their shirts that says, "I was on blue (or purple) today! Mrs. Southard is SO proud of me!" I also have postcards I mail home. I try to get one out to everyone at least once a month. Then, of course, there's always the trusty treasure box :)

First Grade a la Carte
too cute! I use Brain Sprinkles and Power Pellets (from Sarah at First Grader.. At Last). I also use power teaching strategies. We also write sparkle on the board for whole group behavior. If I have to get onto the whole class I erase a letter. How ever many letters they have left is how many rounds of sparkle they get to play at the end of the day! They love it.

ReplyDeleteMy kiddos get tickets to spend in my Scoma Shoppe, they get a bonus spin in Homeworkopoly, they earn team links when working together, they earn hallway behavior letters to work for a reward... we earn and earn and earn!
But sometimes, it doesn't seem to be enough, unfortunately, for all of my kids. Oh well... my hope is that they will one day see the great examples being set by their peers and choose to follow suit!!

I just started using the Einstein award about a month ago for 'extraordinary problem solving'. Last week I introduced the handwriting award (because my class was really starting to slack in that area) and I have already seen a huge difference in their handwriting.
ReplyDeleteI also use those colored, plastic links (that most people have in their math manipulative sets) as "Character Links". When individual students or the whole class make a choice that shows good character, we add one link to our chain. The chain is hung high on the wall with a thumb tack. When it is long enough that it touches the floor, the class votes on a reward they would like to enjoy...them we start the chain all over.
These are super cute! Thanks! I like to use the Clip Chart management system...it lets me reward good behavior very easily! The kids eat it up!! And parents like it, too. :)
